QDeck Welcomes Indie Legend Bill Rebane!!!

Hey All –

Bolts of Electricity through us and the projects!!!! Been away from blog posting too long but have been deep in the trenches doing the work that is Independent Film; when you’re an independent filmmaker, it’s all on YOU: writing/producing/production capital fundraising/etc. We were fortuitous to meet the venerable Bill Rebane who we’re mighty proud to have onboard as Executive Producer on SCORCHED EARTH:The Other Side of World War II. (Ck out the new website!!! Still under construction but we’re live!!!) If anyone knows independent film, it’s Bill Rebane, who has been a true pioneer in this industry as well as an Entrepreneur – this quote is from his Wikipedia Page

“Rebane is credited with the introduction of the first 360 degree (wrap around) motion picture process to the Motion Picture Industry of the world, an innovation that spurred the Cinemax process and today’s Rotascope cameras; as the creator of the Wisconsin Film Office; as the producer, director, writer, and cinematographer on 12 independent feature films, all of which have enjoyed successful international theatrical release; as producer/director of one of the fifty top-grossing films of 1975 (The Giant Spider Invasion, $23 million gross); as having produced, directed, edited, and production designed at least one hundred commercial, industrial, corporate image, documentary or promotion films; and for the creation and successful operation of the first full-time feature film studio in the Midwest for over 30 years”

His is a fascinating story: which began where he was born in Riga, Latvia. His family later traveled to Germany and then to the U.S. His interest in film began in Germany and that’s where it all started for him.  His unique experience has been invaluable especially on script insight: there have been several more drafts done and – in Bill’s words –

“If I’m going to get involved with a project the script has to be at Academy Award level.”

Well, we daresay we’re there. Better than it’s ever been and what a boon it will be to a public led semi-comatose by an endless cycle of remakes/reboots/rehash. We don’t exist to remake ideas that have already been done. Where’s the creativity/originality in that? Thank you – no. There’s too many great stories that have yet to be told!!! Next to SCORCHED EARTH: The Other Side of World War II which asks the central question – how does a soldier remain human in the face of a massive inhumanity? And “massive inhumanity” defines the Russian Front during World War II. The bloodletting that took place there still mystifies western minds – to illustrate: in about a three month period the Soviet Union would lose about 3 million men –

Think about that a moment – what other nation could absorb those kinds of losses & keep fighting? Outside of China we can’t think of one.

And – we’ve developed a short film out of SCORCHED EARTH: The Other Side of World War II. It basically tells the backstory of the two brothers, how they came to be sons of two different nations, their rearing by aristocrat parents, and how they struggle to maintain their humanity and chivalry amidst a war – and a regime – that knows neither. Director Christian Pichler & Robert E. Wilhelm hashed the script out over this past Christmas season, the idea being a short film can act as a “calling card” for the larger feature length film –

Welcome to Indie Filmmaking folks. ;<)

But this is how it’s done. In this age of Social Media, you have to get the word out on as many SM platforms as possible – marketing. We’re excited with the opportunity to work with one of the best Brand Managers in the biz – @SkipBolden. Ck out his Twitter feed: his Twitter feed reads like a “Who’s who” of Indie Filmmakers. Skip knows his stuff. He’s a fine man & we’re mighty proud to call him a friend! ;<)

And THE MARSCHER LORDS:Brotherhood of Death has some new artwork & some sample storyboards – it was time for an update & it certainly won’t be the last. This is a film that asks  perennial questions that face families time and time again: are the bonds of brotherhood enough to maintain a family in perilous times? And just how thick is that blood when money is inserted into the equation?

Good movies are escapism in their truest form. Moreover, THE MARSCHER LORDS:Brotherhood or Death is ripe for expansion into a film franchise. It’s our considered opinion audiences will respond well to the positive messages in the film of duty, honor, chivalry, & brotherhood. Ask any veteran or current active duty serviceman or woman, what do they really fight for? – the people/the brother next to them. All boiled down everything else aside that seems to be their bottom line.

Our bro Edwin H. Bravo has been seriously kicking it – “Irish Moe” on Sneaky Pete and “Izzy” on L.A. to Vegas. Thanks to the super agent Michael Mogan of Mogan Entertainment for being an all around terrific paisano – Mogan repps both Bravo & Wilhelm. And – on the subject of representation – Tsu Tsu Unlimited has being very aggressive getting Wilhelm out in NYC. Stay tuned. Something’s going to break & break soon. How big it will be is the only question.
